Edward Snowden must not be forgotten some of the basic tenants of our US republic is the fact that we are secure in our person, documents, and property. The NSA had created a monster spying on every cell phone, computer, e-mail, text, tweet, and conversation you make. Taking his life in his hand, as well as his freedom he began a march into personal oblivion. He leaked no information to foreign powers, he sold no secrets for personal enrichment. What he did do was to state in essence that the information being gathered in some future day could in the hands of a tyrant tip the scales and be used to oppress US citizens. Is that treason, not hardly, but those who would oppress us call it just that.

223 Rifles the US Government Destruction of- - The magic bullet refers to a successful product. Well the 556 bullet is a magic bullet to destroy civilian rifles. It looks the same as a 223 bullet in every way except it has a heaver powder charge. In a gun barrel there is a section called the throat if it were not in the gun, guns would eventually blow up. When the gun is fired the bullet has an unobstructed aria in the throat to move forward. This gives the bullet time to engrave in the riffling and continue forward. What they did was to chamber 556 guns with a longer throat. When that gun is fired there is for a mille second more case room so there is no pressure spike. On the other hand when a 556 bullet is fired in a 223 rifle the bullet only goes to the edge of the shorter throat and acts like an obstruction creating higher chamber pressure and the gun will in a short time blow up. The US Government agency SAAMI Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufactures Institute could have fixed this long ago but had no intention to do so. US Disarmament

Long range goals for national disarmament go back decades. 308 ammo also called 7.62 X 51 was made a work horse in NATO military guns before the advent of 223 small arms ammo and it is still prevalent in machine gun ammo for the US. 308 Civilian ammo problem is that the chamber pressure is about 20,000 pounds hotter than the military 308. Loading this ammo needs to match the military standard. In a war feeding civilian ammo into these military guns will surely disable these guns in a short time. The day to day long term use of this very hot civilian ammo in civilian guns will surely eventually also lead to the failure of some of the older guns made out of poorer metal. Here again I do not think this was any type of accident. The US Government agency  SAAMI Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufactures Institute could have fixed this long ago. There are 34 military rifles that shoot 308 ammo and many people do not know what the end result will be from firing day in and day out this high powered civilian ammo. Parts will bend, receivers and bolts will fail. Feeding civilian ammo in a modern US machine gun in an emergency will eventually destroy the gun Who said they have not figured this out in advance.

Obama Justifies FEMA imprisonment of civilians!

We must not forget what Obama started may occur in four years after Trump. Owning your own arms and ammo production ability may be critical to the survival of this nation. This short video should sear into the heart of the patriot a need of preparation for what Obama talked about was no different than what was done in the tyranny of Russia and Germany. It takes time to learn good reloading, good bullet production, good shooting skills. Waiting to rush in at the last minute in four years and do what you should have done now may leave you unprepared. Remember Hillary would have moved forward with national disarmament, people controls, etc. This speech is no different than Hitler or Linen would have given- defend against the potential enemy from within. The trouble is many in congress support this philosophy, Obama is leaving office but they are not.

Shot making machine Using My-

If you ever wanted to make shot- -  And No I do not sell shot machines! Shot making is one of the simplest processes and requires three initial procedures one is to have a source of lead and the second is to clean it and turn it into ingots. The third and final step is to turn it into shot which is fast and little more trouble than setting up your shot making machine. There are some show stoppers which can quickly be overcome when you know what to look for. Below is my shot machine in action.  The coolant is liquid laundry detergent but water soluble oil will work.

Son of a Gun

Son of a gun- One of the freak accidents of the Civil War occurred at the battle of Raymond in Mississippi , May 12, 1863 at about 3:00 in the afternoon. A family was on the porch of their home waiting for a lull in the fight so they could offer aid when a Minnie ball passed through a solders left testicle and hit the oldest daughter who was on the porch. After attending to the soldier Dr Legrand G. Capers rushed to attend to the young woman some 300 yards from the fight. The good doctor returned to check on the young girl a number of times  and found she was pregnant and examined her and found her virtue intact. The Doctor introduced her to the soldier and they were eventually married and produced two more children the conventional way. The first child had a lump in him and the doctor decided to operate what he found was the Minnie ball which had been seamlessly enclosed around by the child as he developed. Women children and guns- - The guys should read it too! Before moving forward with reloading it would be well to inform all on some choices of guns that would make a lot of sense. In choosing a gun for the house revolvers are the most reliable but with children around a revolver is too much like a cap gun. They have no safety and are ready at a moment’s notice. To insure the safety of our children when they were small a revolver was out of the question and we settled on a semi-auto. The semi-auto had two pusses one was it had a safety and two if we did not store it with one in the chamber it would need to be cycled to load it which is near impossible for a  small child. This required practice so my wife could pick up the gun cycle it and knock off the safety. Having been a concealed carry instructor an important consideration in buying guns would be to have the safety working the same way. Up safety, or down safety, it is a known fact that women at home when there was an intruder sometimes could not get to their own gun and the police would find them dead with the skin scuffed off of their thumb as they tried to knock off the safety that worked opposite of their gun. So you guys you may have an assortment of guns in your collection do not get rid of them but for your home defense guns you leave as accessible should work in the same way as your wife’s gun. In teaching children about guns the rule at our house was you can see a gun any time you wish as long as you ask and we help them. They can go shooting when they wish as long as they give a little notice so we could plan for it. Any time a gun was out to be cleaned I would ask do you want to see it. Soon the response was that is boring. We filled water containers old soda bottles and shot shaving cream cans so we could explain that getting shot was not like the movies the person would not be in another show next week they would be gone, dead, and buried. Child locks have their place and that is where there is an unusual child who never follows instructions, rebels at every bit of counsel and does what he or she wants in spite of what they are told. In that case a child lock may be your only hope.

Santa Fe Trailmaster Revew Golden State Arms

The best way to describe these guns is  that they were assembled miss-mixed parts though others may find some need to criticize the whole gun, I had the chance to see one that belonged to a man who lived around the corner and have spent some time with the gun.   Being assembled parts is not always a bad thing. During the 1950's and 60's kids would take big block dump truck motors with 4 bolt mains on the crank and put in the biggest carburetor available and a radical cam and buy an adapter kit for a high torque transmission and put it in an old car chassis. These were called sleepers! On the weekends kids would line up on some abandoned strip of paved road and race. After loosing a few races he would offer to race car title for car title and go home with some kids Mustang or Corvette.

 Looking at this gun I think it is a sleeper it has a Mouser receiver which is most desired among bolt action hunters and bench rest target shooters and the gun has an adapted variation Mouser bolt which appears to be a high grade Nickle chromium steel with two locking lugs at the front and a long lug that includes the bolt handle that rests against the rear of the receiver when in battery. Very safe looking construction design! Being a military receiver it takes a stripper clip and this places it in a class of its own and I see it as a real plus and the US 308 or 30/06 stripper clips work reasonably well (not perfectly) "But" the Swedish Mouser stripper clips work perfectly and should be on your list of things to get. The gun parts fit to the stock is also very good. The stock finish is also very good and has a very pronounced pistol grip (it feels good to hold). The barrel is very good and flush mount steel constructed magazine is better than the plastic trigger guard magazine holder on the Mohawk 600 which easily brakes as the plastic was under designed for the gun so the Trail-master is one solid piece of work. The one down side is the rear sight which was a dumpy light screw on sight that would be more fitting on a 22 rifle.  If this gun had a side mount scope so the stripper clips would work I think the gun would be equivalent to the U.S. M24 sniper rifle currently in use today.
Military 308 ammo has about 20,000 less PSI (pounds per square inch) than civilian ammo and should be first choice in this gun. People do not know that and mess up many fine guns. This is part of the on going disarmament plan as the U.S. agency for setting safety standards for ammo has chosen that pressure as a industry standard. In a war many fine sporting rifles would be toast in day to day use. Civilian ammo used in captured military guns and machine guns would leave them with broken parts and inoperative in a short time. It does not mater what make of 308 rifle you have in bolt action like the Winchester, Remington, etc or a semi auto M14 you are better off with military surplus or reloaded 308 ammo.  

   In conclusion, not typical is the fact that some Golden State guns were assembled in Japan Europe or even Spain and Spanish guns normally should be avoided like the plague because of poor metallurgy. This appears to have made little difference as the parts were made elsewhere and shipped in for assembly. I have found no information on the internet on gun failure concerning Golden State Arms (but if there is it will be in relation to high powered civilian ammo). To your advantage is the low critical evaluation of the guns by its critics and the low asking prices I think it is an excellent deal especially for a man on a low budget.  The one thing for sure is the fact that the gun will not dint your pocket book, it loads like a military rifle with stripper clips which could be important in the future, and it looks like a nice sporting rifle. Look at over all gun condition and  start at $100 and try to stay under $225 if the gun is in excellent condition. Point out to the seller that the gun is not valued by some gun value books. Ammo Application in Gun Function Part 1 of 12

Part One This tutorial will cover  Gun Clips, Stripper Clips, and Webbing to hold clips, looking at Magazines, and Magazine springs, and speed loaders. Photos and instructions on salvage are included.

Some people are buying guns that had never planned to own one. When asked why they say I want one in case guns are taken away. Some basic information could be critical to how to use a gun to its best advantage. Homemade tin can clips will also be discussed. 

The supply system to a gun determines the usability of a gun. The quicker a gun can be loaded the faster the response. When people think about a bolt action gun they think of hunting rifles and military surplus bolt action guns as being in the same ball park. Even the old bolt action surpluses guns can be used with great effectiveness against superior guns today. Looking at the loading system of military rifles, some time ago, in talking to one man, he had a SKS rifle but did not like it much as he had to load the gun one bullet at a time. When I mentioned that the gun used a stripper clip to load with he said “what is that”. He owned perhaps one of the most formidable battle weapons of its time and did not know how to load the gun. I am not insulting any ones intelligence-- people are rushing into guns for fear that the government may become oppressive. Many years ago I felt the need for a gun for my family’s safety and I too was ignorant about guns. People need simple information to enlighten them on what they own and how to use it. The following instructions and photos will be useful. Just because you own an old surplus bolt action gun it does not mean it is in the same the league as a deer rifle. The surplus gun stands above. A deer rifle has its plusses yes but a surplus military weapon from any war was built to go toe to toe with the enemy. For historical target shooting having the ability to speed load your gun is 99% of the fun. For self-defense for your home of course a handgun would be first choice for convince and immediate presentation but not everyone owns a handgun. In the exchange of fire with a rifle in your home your old military gun is no slacker. In that case I would rather have a military rifle over any deer rifle ever made. For the first five shots they would be equal but that is where comparison ends. If you have a small clip pouch on the sling you are back in business after the first five shots. For home defense with an intruder in another room, after appraising his general location and the locations of residents and neighbors you can start making holes in walls. Even a cinder block house would not deter many bullets from a high powered rifle. Coming up with some of the nicer goodies can be expensive when it comes to gun accessories. This is a street side fiberglass reflector pole. Without the reflector it is about $2. The handle was made from a cheap screwdriver that was heated just enough to pull out with pliers yet not enough to scorch the plastic.

The file was loaded with chalk so as not to clog it with the fiberglass.

File both sides flat but taper the back.

 Drill two holes.

 Use pin files to make the groove.

 to clean out the screwdriver handle shaft hole.  

                      

Then I used a very small drill bit to pepper the inside of the screw driver handle hole with irregular pot marks approximately 1/8 inch deep so the epoxy would have to fill in these gouges. The back end of the fiberglass shaft was temporally inserted and removed and roughed up with sandpaper and finally received a few file strokes. The metal screwdriver part was used one last time to mix the epoxy and apply it in the screw driver handle hole and then the cleaning patch hole and end was coated with a small amount of epoxy. A larger screwdriver handle could have been used but the larger hole would have required supporting the fiberglass rod to keep it straight until it dried.  The fiberglass rod can be made as long or as short as you want. If you mess up on the end then cut it off and start again. I left my rod full length. Richard W Norman

Bullet Casting: Sorting Wheel Weights

Here's some of my sorted WW ready for melting and ingots. 

Many wheel weights (or WW) are presently being offered to tire companies which are not made of lead. It is important to segregate these products before melting them. It is not like the old days where you indiscriminately dump your wheel weights into a melting pot and melt them. One of the current products used in massive amounts is zinc. Zinc will turn your molten mas of lead into an unyielding glob which would be useless. To prevent this it requires sorting products. First you need to be familiar with which WW is lead and what is not. A visit on the web looking under wheel balancing weights will supply you with pictures from the manufactures and what their products are, listing them as steal, lead or zinc.

Some very flat wheel weights are so soft that you can scratch them with your fingernail but they have an extremely high melting point. This means that they are low antimony and high in another unknown additive; my guess would be tin which could be melted in to an unlimited percent of lead. But it could also be as high as 0.2% nickel and 0.13% copper. These wheel weights as they are would appear to be most useful for shot gun slug making or use in black powder projectiles of any type. Most people like their shot hard but it could be used in a shot making machine if you had no other use for them. Tin is a most desirable additive in bullet making as it helps the bullet fill out better. The trouble with trying to mix tin is that the metal needs to be razed to a higher heat to mix the tin in the molten lead. This would be best done by melting and cleaning your wheel weights and using pliers and a propane torch to heat these flat wheel weights and drip them into your molten lead. If you try to just melt them in you can lose some of your most valuable antimony which will separate in the scum and which most people skim off and throw away. The goal is to get your metal up to temperature and mix what you have to mix and cast your ingots as quickly as you can.

Use a magnet to sort the steel WW, stick a small magnet to the outside of the WW.

Other flat wheel weights are zinc and they should be separated and discarded with the steel wheel weights. Some tire shops have a 100% recycle policy and will not sell you wheel weights. Talk to the manager and ask him if he will swap bucket for bucket for the WW you cannot use. This will guarantee that you end up with a completely usable product after sorting. It is like free money! Otherwise you must throw them away.

 When doing research about WW online, you will not be able to see every type that has ever been made, that is where blind sorting comes in. This is done with a pair of hand tile nips or cutters. So you will pick up each WW and give it a firm nip, if it will not dent it is steal throw it in the discard bucket. If it slightly dents it is most likely a zinc wheel weight discard it as well and if it easily dents it is probably made of lead.

Sorting WW can be very time consuming yet each pound of lead equals a considerable return in ammo. Casting your own bullets is a wonderful way to save money over store bought bullets.

Homemade Rifle Bolt Assembly Tool for 303 British and A2 308 Cal Ishapore

What is a nut driver? A not driver is a handle that looks like a screwdriver with a socket welded on the end from the factory. The shaft is hollow. Some nut drivers have a solid shaft so they will not work for this project. What is a striker tool (firing pin removal tool for a British or Indian rifle)? It is a hollow shaft with two pieces of metal equally spaced across from each other. How do I make one ? First do not grind up one of your nut drivers if you have a set unless you can buy a replacement cheap. Pawn shops and yard sales will yield one in time for almost nothing.

There is more than enough information on using this tool on the internet so here are some simple instructions on making the tool. This used nut driver from a pawn shop junk box was $1. The most important thing about the 303 British and the A2 308 Cal Ishapore is the fact that the nut driver shaft is small enough to go in the striker hole (firing pin hole) in the bolt after unscrewing the front part..

Before moving on let us put a few things into perspective. Many of us have some pretty nice tools. A drill, a grinder, files, and a hacksaw a hammer and some chisels are the basics. Some people have a little more a drill press, and a welder. And a very few more have a lathe of some sort whether wood or metal turning lathe. Our main problem today is the fact that people do not know how to use these tools. The other problem is that people do not know what they can do with the basic tools a hammer a chisel some files and a drill. You can literally make a gun. In a machinist course the instructor will generally spend no more than a few days on teaching a class how to use a file. This means that in a few days not weeks or months you can make a complicated product.

A bench grinder is perhaps the most brutal tool in your shop. It is made for rough metal removal so to do anything else requires a gentle touch. The motor on a bench grinder is sealed for good reason as metal filings would destroy a ventilated motor. When using a grinder for extended periods of time periodically check the grinder motor with a touch of your hand. When it feels uncomfortably warm turn it off and come back to your project when it is cool. Follow all manufactures suggestions for safety—grinder application and use. Make sure that all safety devices are installed and use eye protection.

I have a precision machining certificate so to me this is a simple creation. Practice grinding on a piece of round bar stock before you do it for real. The nut driver you chose could have any number of sizes of sockets with about the same sized shaft. I used a bench grinder to remove the socket end, and to shape the remaining end. The nut driver was rotated and pressed against the grinder wheel of the bench grinder and removed evenly. Touch gently and rotate, take your time--when you hand can no longer move withdraw reset your hands and start about where you had stopped and rotate. I left a little of the socket metal which was probably not necessary. The final step would best be done with a file. But some socket metals are heat treated and hard and may not yield to a file. At this point if the metal is not to hard and you can use a file use file. Mark the desired width of the metal you desire to leave sticking up across from each other.   

I put something in front of my grinder to steady my hands on and gently finished my metal removal. If you mess up grind the end flat back up a little re-mark and start again. If the shaft is not long enough you can remove some of the plastic handle by the exposed shaft. If the firing pin hits the plastic in the handle use a drill bit and go up the shaft. If the two dimples are not far enough apart heat them and spread them a little. This is a simple project so do not try to make it difficult.
