Stock Making and Repair Tools

This tool was rusted solid, no part would move.

To fix guns or stocks it takes two things one is tools and the other is a little know how. Tools can quickly run into a lot of money. A hobby wood plane can be useful in fixing a broken gun butt, or the shaping and replacement of wood on a stock. This little jewel was a rusty relic soaked in AMSOIL but PB works as well (PB would have been my first choice but AMSOIL was available at the time). It was squirted liberally and put in a ziplock bag and soaked overnight and the next day set in a car window on a plate and left all day to cook. I used a very large whetstone to remove the rust on the bare metal surfaces along with sandpaper on a flat surface. If you want to learn how to use your hands then pick junk yard projects to work with. If you do not fix them then you will have lost little more than your investment in time in fixing them.   

Parts were wiggled gently with Channellocks until they began to move do not force anything. If the parts will still not move recoat with PB and let set for one month and try again.

With a re-sharpened blade and resembled It will now work as well as a new one. Time investment 5 hours. But what would I have gained from 5 hrs. of TV? Nothing! A few dozen such projects and you will soon own a small fortune in tools. The wife will not complain as it cost nearly nothing.
